Boost Your Balance: Mindfulness

Join the HAWKS for a 15-30 minute mindfulness session to calm the mind and inspire creativity. In this session, you’ll learn the basics of mindfulness, grounding breathing techniques, and do a watercolor painting activity.

Gratitude is a mindset and self-care practice with powerful benefits, including reduced symptoms of depression and improved sleep quality. In this interactive session, you will learn about these benefits while decorating your own personal gratitude journal. It’s a creative, hands-on way to reflect and reset.

Brief Presentations: “Fit in 15”

A limited number of 15-minute presentations are offered to groups looking for health and wellness information and resources. Topics include fitness, nutrition, interpersonal violence prevention, and alcohol risk reduction. Our Program Coordinator will help you choose content for your group.

• Fit in 15: Fitness is a quick, 15 minute program to get you moving, boost your energy, and fit wellness into your day. No equipment needed. 

• Fit in 15: Nutrition gives simple, realistic tips on how to fuel your body and make smarter choices using a meal plan, campus dining, or meal prep off campus.
• Fit in 15: Staying Safer shares quick, practical strategies to reduce risk, stay safer, and look out for friends. 

Cycling Through Consent

HAWKS staff a table in one of your high traffic areas and talk with residents about consent, sexual decision making, and staying safer. We bring safer sex giveaways (condoms, dental dams, lube) for the conversations. The HAWKS Smoothie Bike can be part of this event with advance notice.

FYE/UNV Course-Step Up! Bystander Facilitated Discussion

Bystander intervention teaches you the tools they need to assist in a variety of situations.

Generation Rx

You’ve heard about prescription drug misuse, but what are the facts and myths? This discussion-based program addresses questions and issues you may have about polysubstance use, stimulants including ADHD medications, depressants, opioids, and more.

HAWKS staff a table in one of your high traffic areas and talk with residents about alcohol and other drug choices, what is legal and low risk, looking out for each other, and how to stay safer. We bring giveaways like fentanyl test strips, Narcan, and other items.

How Well Do You Know Your ABC's? Alcohol, Borgs, and Cannabis:

This program focuses on personal decision making, harm reduction, and resources for staying safer. You face many choices about if, when, how much, and with whom you use or don't use substances. HAWKS bring giveaways like fentanyl test strips, Narcan, and other items.

Flourish - Positive Psychology

Using positive psychology, Flourish guides you to the daily habits that improve overall mental well-being. We share campus and community resources and encouragement for everyone who wants to flourish and thrive in their Miami experience.

Mindset Reset: Practical Coping Skills for Everyday Challenges

College life brings new challenges and transitions which can feel overwhelming. This interactive workshop introduces a variety of coping strategies and guides you in creating a personalized plan for managing stress in a healthy way.

QPR Gatekeeper Training (Question, Persuade, Refer Suicide Prevention)

Just as CPR helps anyone save a life in a medical emergency, QPR is a simple educational program that teaches you how to recognize a mental health emergency and get someone at risk the help they need. Certified QPR Gatekeeper Instructors teach the three steps to help prevent suicide: Question, Persuade, and Refer. In just 90 minutes, you can learn to save a life.

The more people trained in QPR, the more lives are saved. This is a bystander-intervention program delivered peer to peer. Note: Limit is 35 participants per session. Larger groups run concurrent small groups. Goals of QPR Gatekeeper Training include:

• Educating participants on the myths and facts associated with suicide
• Recognize the warning signs of suicide and contributing causes
• How to Question, Persuade, and Refer someone who may be suicidal
• Sharing resources available to help someone in crisis

Sex in the Basement

HAWKS' most popular sexual health program includes a review of high-risk and low-risk sexual activities, condom use, an introduction to contraceptives and STIs, the importance of consent and sexual assault, what may happen when sex and alcohol mix, and the safety of abstinence.

Sexual Assault Awareness and Consent Education 101

The program focuses on the definition of consent and sexual assault. 

Up in Smoke: Cannabis, Vaping, and Zyns

You will learn about the changing face of cannabis laws and trends with vaping and oral nicotine like Zyns. You will learn ways to stay healthier, what to consider when making choices about substances, and the difference between state and federal laws.

What is a Healthy Relationship?

Celebrate your identity by establishing healthy, fulfilling relationships with partners, friends, and family. This program teaches effective communication to maintain healthy relationships and identify warning signs of unhealthy relationships.
