Assistive Technology Student Master 2 Undergrad

Salary/Grade: $12.50 - $14.00 / hr
Hours per Week: Up to 22 hours per week during school sessions. Up to 40 hours per week during summer and breaks.
Duration of Appointment: One Year
Job Description Summary: The Assistive Technology Student Master assists the AccessMU Center in supporting accessibility across the University. The AccessMU Center manages the remediation of documents and course materials and is responsible for accessibility policy, and the testing of documents, websites, and applications for accessibility. This position requires a minimum of 10 hours per week. A State of Ohio criminal background check will be required for this position.
Essential Duties:

● Create alternative formats of documents using the following techniques: scanning documents using OCR software, editing and zoning documents, performing file conversions, and extracting data from publisher PDF files or scanned images.
● Assist in managing and processing captioning requests for the University.
● Manage incoming requests for services provided by the AccessMU Center.
● Work individually and as part of a team to test applications, websites, and documents for accessibility.
● Write and generate reports with the results of accessibility testing, including suggested fixes.
● Review documents and reports for Quality Assurance (QA).
● Create content and tactile images using specialized equipment such as the Tactile Graphic Machine & the Tiger Braille Embosser.
● Manage and support assistive technology.
● Provide assistive technology training for students registered with the Miller Center for Student Disability Services and for faculty and staff.
● Participate in multiple projects and ensure they are on track for successful completion within given timelines.
● Perform administrative duties as assigned, including reporting and office support.
● Provide phone and walk-in support to faculty, staff and students.
● Fulfill other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

● Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Adobe Products
● Strong written and verbal communication skills

Candidates recommended for hire must pass a State of Ohio criminal background check to be hired into this position.  

Special Instructions to Applicants:

● Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe products
● Understanding of HTML
● Experience testing applications/websites
● Experience writing technical documentation
● Ability to learn new technologies and follow instructions to work independently
● Ability to work winter and/or summer term
