Job Summary:

Administration and operation of the men's ice hockey program consistent with the policies of Miami University, the Mid-American Conference, the NCAA, and other appropriate governing bodies (i.e. NCHC) .

This position specifically supports the mission of the University and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics by assisting in institutional compliance with NCAA and Conference rules and regulations.

Duties/Physical Demands:

Assistant:
Participates in the administration and organization of the Men's Ice Hockey program, to include:
• Assist the Recruiting Coordinator/Associate Head Coach in identification of prospective student-athletes
• Assist the Recruiting Coordinator/Associate Head Coach in determining scholarship allocation for prospective student-athletes
• Participate in recruiting travel to evaluate prospective student-athletes
• Assist the Head Coach and Associate Head Coach with on-ice practice sessions for all players
• Coach the goaltenders with technique and training methods
• Serve as primary liaison to the Academic Coordinator in monitoring academic progress
• Meeting with student-athletes individually who need assistance with academic progress
• Team travel arrangements
• Serve as primary liaison to the Miami Hockey Alumni Body to coordinate and execute alumni functions
• Prepare for upcoming games through opponent video scouting and preparation of scouting reports
• Maintaining knowledge of NCAA, MAC, NCHC and University rules and regulations
• Enforcing athletic departmental and team policies regarding student athletes
• Maintaining and updating files on student-athletes to include: transcripts, course schedules and calendars
• Participating in departmental activities to include service on committees and attending all scheduled mandatory meetings
• Performing other duties as assigned by the athletic administration and Head Ice Hockey Coach

Associate specifics in addition to other duties as assigned:
• Oversee and manage all aspects of student-athlete recruitment, which includes, but is not limited to; preparation of recruiting schedules, making recruiting visits, and process accepted student-athletes within the guidelines of the NCAA, Mid-American Conference, and NCHC;
• Monitor the recruitment budget; Manage and oversee all scholarship allocations to student-athletes;
• Manage, with assistance from the Head Coach, all competitive game scheduling;
• Act as the lead in managing all NCAA Compliance and Miami University Admissions aspects related to the program;
• Organization of team practice sessions, on-ice coaching, pre and post-game analysis, strength and conditioning sessions, and competition day duties;
• Video analysis of team and individual players; Assist in developing and writing team rules and policies; Assist with team travel and other off-ice administrative duties;

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree
Assistant-specific: Experience in coaching hockey or playing in college hockey
Associate-specific: Experience in coaching hockey at least 2 years at collegiate or similar level

Desired Qualifications:

1. Recruiting experience in United States Tier 1 junior hockey leagues, U.S. Tier II junior hockey leagues, and/or similar Canadian/International junior hockey league
2. Master's degree

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and promote an inclusive work environment

Proficient in the use of Hockey Software
