Miami University Libraries, in cooperation with OhioLINK, Ohio’s academic library consortium, seeks to identify candidates who have explored librarianship as a possible career path through the OhioLINK Luminaries program, and who are interested in deepening their experience. This position requires a full academic year commitment (fall and spring semester) and the ability to work 9 per week. The position includes select departmental rotations, collaborating with the program’s first-year students, and working with a mentor. Student participants are also expected to participate in professional development sessions to be coordinated throughout the academic year. The typical work schedule for this role will fall between 8:30am - 5:00pm, Monday-Friday, but may vary.

Essential Duties: |
As a paid, resume-building position offering hands-on experience, the second-year student participants receive a deeper understanding of select aspects of the information studies profession. Students are paired with a mentor to explore librarianship, gain valuable knowledge in the field, and develop marketable skills that are extendable to a variety of career disciplines. Student employees will work in one library department each semester and will focus on developing skills through one or more projects over the course of each semester. Student employees will serve as peer mentors for newer student employees in the Luminaries program. A final reflective project will be required, but will be discussed and agreed upon with the student’s mentor. Please note, candidates for this position must have previously completed a year in the OhioLINK Luminaries Program.
