Job Summary:

The Student Success Center seeks to hire approximately 5 GradU8 Learning Partners to serve during the Fall term 2024. Each GradU8 Learning Partner will be assigned a cohort of first-year students (appx. 15-20) participating in the GradU8 Scholars program whom they will support in a teacher-mentor capacity. The GradU8 Scholars program selects a limited number of students based on their admission profile for a special opportunity to graduate in four years while having access to a variety of benefits and supports. The Partner will commit to working five hours per week throughout the fall semester: Attend a class meeting ranging from 1-2 hours on Monday evening, hold at least one office hour, complete a one-hour training, prepare classroom materials, and communicate outside of class with the assigned cohort via technology. Initial training will occur in May 2024. Training is required and paid time.

Essential Duties:

• Work in collaboration with Student Success Center staff and other Learning Partners in helping GradU8 participants adjust to college life
• Support students with academic and transition concerns, including using Miami resources and e-Tools, reading the Degree Audit Report (DAR), navigating scheduling and registration, communicating with professors, exploring majors, and expanding scholarly skills
• Serve as a resource to cohort students
• Facilitate group discussions and class activities as directed
• Regularly interact and build relationships with cohort students
• Participate fully in all sessions and activities
• Help with set-up and clean-up for all activities
• Serve as the face of the Student Success Center to the campus community
• Utilize technology (email, text, GroupMe, Zoom, etc.) as communication tools
• Listen to students’ needs and advocate on their behalf to the SSC and campus partners where appropriate
• Attend all mandatory trainings

Minimum Qualifications:

• Current Miami University student with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75
• Ability to work with participants in both small and large groups
• Must be mature, a good role model, exercise good judgment, maintain confidentiality, and have the ability to solve problems
• Possess a friendly demeanor and positive attitude
• Be creative, engage in brainstorming activities, and show initiative
• Possess excellent communication, presentation, and leadership skills
• Current GradU8 Scholars, Bridges Scholars, and Miami Firsts students are strongly encouraged to apply
