Job Title:

Dean & Professor - College of Arts & Science

Job Summary:

Miami University (Miami), an original Public Ivy and Top 75 National Public University, invites applications and nominations for the Dean of the College of Arts and Science (CAS) position. Miami seeks an exceptional leader with a strong record of collaboration, a forward-looking vision, and significant academic accomplishment and administrative experience. The new dean will have the opportunity to lead the 23 departments and 25 affiliated centers and institutes in CAS through their next phase of strategic planning. The dean will lead the largest college at Miami, representing nearly half of all students, with a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and a diverse set of programs, many of which are interdisciplinary.

Miami University is a highly respected and distinctive public institution of higher education that is recognized for outstanding undergraduate education and selective graduate and research programs. Miami serves the citizens of the state of Ohio, as well as an established regional and an increasingly national constituency. With a student body of nearly 17,000 undergraduate and approximately 2,200 graduate students at its Oxford campus, Miami University effectively combines a wide range of strong academic programs with the personal attention ordinarily found only at much smaller institutions. Graduate programs complement and enhance the undergraduate educational experience. Two regional campuses and the Voice of America Learning Center, which collectively enroll an additional approximately 4,000 students, and the Dolibois European Center in Luxembourg, provide key access points and opportunities for traditional and non-traditional students alike.

Duties/Physical Demands:

Reporting directly to the Provost and Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs, the dean is the chief administrative, academic, and budgetary officer for the College of Arts and Science. The dean will provide oversight of departments, interdisciplinary and pre-professional programs, two museums, and the university’s ROTC programs. This individual will lead and advocate for approximately 8300 undergraduate and graduate students, with 373 full-time faculty members and 195 staff members, and oversee a budget of approximately $73MM. The dean will possess a strong understanding and love of the humanities, liberal arts, social sciences and STEM fields. They will have the ability to work in an interdisciplinary and entrepreneurial way across Miami University, adapt and evolve the CAS curriculum to fit the changing world, recognize the importance of community among its Miami students and alums, and create a thriving network that will sustain the growth and support of CAS into the future.

Minimum Qualifications:

The successful candidate will hold a terminal degree in one of the College of Arts and Science’s general fields of study and have achieved a distinguished record of scholarly, professional achievement for appointment as a full professor in one of the departments within the college.
