Job Summary:

Miami Hope is a group dedicated to suicide prevention and reducing mental health stigma on Miami University’s campus. As a QPR Peer Educator, students will work to reduce instances of suicide on campus by providing evidence-based Question, Persuade, Refer programming, as well as other mental health programming as needed. QPR Educators will be a key players for mental health programming on Miami’s Oxford Campus.

Work assignments are completed under close supervision.
Procedures are well established.
Employees typically follow well-defined policies and procedures.
Minimal training or prior knowledge of work is required.

Essential Duties:

Provide educational training to students on campus about suicidal ideation and how to interact using the QPR intervention method
Ability to participate in QPR onboarding training during the summer or early fall semester
Ability to participate in ongoing training for professional development
Will periodically manage the front desk for the Office of Student Wellness, providing programming around topics for mental health
Required to meet with supervisor once a month as a group
Ability to meet, at minimum, two times during the semester for a one-on-one

Minimum Qualifications:

Empathy
Interpersonal skills
Comfortable speaking publicly about difficult topics
Current Miami Student
Minimum 3.0 GPA

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience discussing hard topics with peers
