Howe Writing Center Support Staff - Student Assistant



Job Summary:

The Howe Writing Center is looking for friendly, detail-oriented self-starting students who are excited about fully engaging with the Howe Writing Center and the Howe Center for Writing Excellence.

HWC Support Staff:
1. Welcome visitors and writers to the HWC.
2. Assist with appointment scheduling for all HWC locations, both face-to-face and online.
3. Maintain complete knowledge of HWC and HCWE (events, staff, policies and protocols) in order to efficiently assist faculty and students.
4. Collect and help manage HWC data.
5. Create, populate, and maintain spreadsheets, both google and excel.
6. Maintain HWC locations as clean and welcoming.

Work assignments are completed under close supervision.
Procedures are well established.
Employees typically follow well-defined policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

 To be considered, you must:
1. Be an undergrad or grad student
2. Be able to work some evenings until 9:00.
3. Be able to work on Sundays.
4. Be able to work at either the HWC in King Library or the Howe Center for Business Writing (HCBW) in 3064 FSB.

Minimal training or prior knowledge of work is required.

In addition to your application, please submit a letter in which you discuss the following:
1. Why you think you would be a good fit for the HWC Support Staff. Give an example that shows you as friendly, and/or detail-oriented, and/or a self-starter.
2. Your past experiences working with data and spreadsheets (for example, classes from your major, summer jobs, or internships).
3. Your proposed number of hours to work each week, keeping in mind that the minimum number of hours is 6.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. Comfort and facility with online platforms
2. Knowledge of, and facility with, google and excel spreadsheets.
