Domestic First-Year Students
ACT and SAT scores are optional for students applying to the university, which means domestic, first-year students will not be required to provide an ACT or SAT test score for admission or scholarship consideration. Students may choose to submit ACT or SAT test scores if they would like them them considered as part of their holistic application review.
- Miami School Code to send ACT scores: 3294
- Miami School Code to send College Board (SAT) scores: 1463
Applications are evaluated using criteria including GPA, academic rigor, application essays, co-curricular and extracurricular activities, talent, and background, among others.
Starting April 2025, ACT composite scores will include only the required English, Reading, and Math sections; Science and Writing are now optional. Miami reviews only the composite score — not individual sections — for admission to the university and to competitive programs. If multiple test dates are submitted, Miami will consider the composite superscore. Learn more about recent ACT changes.

Once You've Accepted Your Admission Offer
After confirming enrollment at Miami, students are recommended to submit ACT/SAT scores if they have them. Scores will not negatively impact an applicant's admission decision or financial aid. Along with the results of Miami's math placement test, ACT or SAT test scores provide insight for the math placement conversation during course registration at orientation. Students who have taken the ACT or SAT and accepted their Miami admission offer should submit scores by May 5. Regardless of whether we have test scores, all new undergraduate students are required to complete Miami's math placement test prior to their orientation session.
International Students
International students are not required to provide an ACT or SAT score, but they are required to meet English language proficiency requirements. ACT or SAT tests may be used to satisfy that requirement. Learn more about English language proficiency requirements.
Transfer Students
Transfer students who are applying through spring 2026 are not required to provide an ACT or SAT test score for admission. This is a temporary suspension of a policy that required test scores unless transfer students have been out of high school for five or more years or have completed at least 20 graded semester hours of college-level coursework after high school graduation.
