Panhellenic Association

The Panhellenic Association at Miami University includes 18 nationally affiliated sororities focused on friendship, leadership, scholarship, service, and community. Miami’s deferred recruitment process gives students time to adjust to college life, explore campus involvement, and learn more about sorority membership before participating in recruitment during the spring semester.

Panhellenic Association Recruitment Overview

Miami uses a deferred recruitment process for Panhellenic sororities. Students spend their first semester getting connected on campus before participating in recruitment during the spring semester.

Recruitment allows students to meet chapters, learn about sorority life, and explore where they may find community and belonging.

Eligibility

In addition to the general eligibility requirements to join a fraternity or sorority at Miami:

  • You must formally register for primary recruitment prior to the deadline of Jan. 2.
  • The Introduction to Fraternity and Sorority Life course must be completed prior to the beginning of recruitment to be eligible to participate. You will receive an invitation to join the course after you register for recruitment.
  • Recommendation letters are not required to participate in Panhellenic recruitment at Miami. Some chapters may accept recommendations directly from alumnae members. Please review Panhellenic's website to learn more about each chapter's process and where to submit letters.
  • All first year women who join a sorority are highly encouraged to live in the sorority corridor during their second year and must sign an on-campus housing agreement to facilitate that. Learn more about chapter housing.

Timeline and Events

Students are encouraged to attend events, meet chapter members, and explore organizations throughout the fall semester before participating in spring recruitment.

Informal Recruitment

Some chapters may participate in informal recruitment throughout the year if membership openings are available. To participate in informal recruitment, you must meet the same eligibility requirements as those who participate in the primary recruitment process.

Informal recruitment is typically more casual and chapter-directed than primary recruitment. Participating chapters manage their own timelines, events, and communication.

Panhellenic helps facilitate communication for informal recruitment but does not traditionally host informal recruitment events.
