Undergraduate Associates in first-year experience courses (e.g., UNV 101, BUS 106) serve as peer mentors to the newest Miamians. As participants in the UA program, students must work a minimum of 37.5 hours over the course of the fall 2025 semester assisting an instructor with the planning and implementation of a first-year experience course. No prior leadership or mentoring experience is required to apply for the FYE UA position.

Priority consideration for the first-year experience course UA role will be given to those upperclass students who apply by Sunday, April 27, 2025 at 11:59 pm. However, applications will remain available through June 15, 2025 or until positions are filled. First-year experience course UAs will participate in a required in-person training session prior to classes starting in the fall. The training session will take place on Sunday, August 24 from 10 a.m. - noon. Additional information about this training session will be provided in mid-July 2025.
All first-year experience course UAs will be enrolled in a 1-credit hybrid (online + in person) course to support training and education around peer mentorship. This 1-credit course is required for the FYE UA role. Those UAs returning to the position will have the option to receive 1 independent study credit, and will have the opportunity to serve as a UA mentor.
FYE UAs returning to the role for a second or third year may elect to serve as a UA Mentor. UA Mentors serve as guides and support systems for first-year UAs. You can indicate interest in the mentor program on the UA application.
