First-Year Experience Undergraduate Associates
Undergraduate Associates in first-year experience courses (e.g., UNV 101, BUS 106) serve as peer mentors to the newest Miamians. As participants in the UA program, students must work a minimum of 37.5 hours over the course of the fall 2026 semester assisting an instructor with the planning and implementation of a first-year experience course. No prior leadership or mentoring experience is required to apply for the FYE UA position.
Undergraduate Associates for first-year experience courses:
- Support first-year experience courses and serve as undergraduate teaching assistants.
- Provide valuable perspective, input, suggestions, and guidance to the newest Miamians.
- Earn one credit hour for the experience through the TCE 310: Applications of Peer Education course and a notation on your transcript.
- Receive training to enhance knowledge and skills related to leadership, communication, building welcoming communities, and collaboration.
- Learn from and work with a faculty/staff mentor.
- Serve in a mentoring role that will positively impact new Miami students.
- Dec. 15, 2025 - applications available.
- April 19, 2026 - priority application deadline at 11:59 p.m.(FSB students should apply by this date)
- June 14 at 11:59 p.m. - final application deadline (to receive placement by mid-July).
- mid-July, 2026 - UA course placement notifications
Priority consideration for the first-year experience course UA role will be given to those upperclass students who apply by Sunday, April 19, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. However, applications will remain available through June 15, 2026 or until positions are filled. First-year experience course UAs will participate in a required in-person training session prior to classes (date/time TBD).
All first-year experience course UAs will be enrolled in a 1-credit hybrid (online + in person) course to support training and education around peer mentorship. This 1-credit course is required for the FYE UA role. Those UAs returning to the position will have the option to receive 1 independent study credit.
