Placement Coordinator

Job Summary:

Placement Coordinator has the primary responsibility of arranging student teaching and field placements for approximately 600 teacher candidates per semester in PK-12 programs. The Placement Coordinator works with multiple stakeholders (students, faculty, school leaders, teachers, etc.) to organize the most effective placements with regard to subject area, grade level, school demographics, special requests, travel arrangements and student preference.

Founded in 1902, the College of Education, Health, and Society was Miami University’s first professional school and remains a leader in educating the next generation of leaders dedicated to strengthening society. Today, CEHS enrolls more than 3,000 undergraduate students, 600 graduate students, employs more than 200 faculty and 50 staff, and leads the University in terms of the highest percentage of diverse students and faculty across the university. The College embraces the rich opportunities available for cross-disciplinary collaboration across its six departments (Educational Leadership; Educational Psychology; Family Science and Social Work; Kinesiology, Nutrition, and Health; Sport Leadership and Management; and Teaching, Curriculum, and Educational Inquiry). Miami combines a wide range of strong academic programs with the personal attention ordinarily found only at much smaller institutions. Graduate education in these programs is innovative and is leading the way in preparing students for careers in fields like educational leadership, social work, sport analytics, eSports, nutrition, and athletic training.

Duties/Physical Demands:

The Placement Coordinator will serve as a liaison between PK-12 districts/agencies and Miami University to develop and nurture those relationships; develop high quality student teaching and field placements by: creating a timeline and schedule, assessing and reviewing student applications, communicating with stakeholders, maintaining appropriate records required by state and federal laws as well as accreditation groups; work with students to ensure they have all appropriate documentation and clearances, and as needed communicate those to the placement site, in order to participate in their placements; create partnership opportunities through pathways of communication with schools/districts by creating working relationships with teachers and administrators to ensure matching of school needs and student’s needs; provide timely responses to field experience and student teaching requests; and handling of any student, teacher, and/or administrator’s concerns, issues as needed and in a timely fashion; participate in preparation of relevant accreditation materials related to PK-12 partnerships, placements, and licenses; develop and implement a technology-based approach to informing students of their placements and other relevant information; engage with faculty in relevant departments, as needed, to ensure appropriate alignment of student teaching placements with the goals/requirements of the teacher education programs; work with the Director to develop and update student teaching and field placement guides/handbooks; perform administrative functions such as maintaining and updating student records, establishing databases, answering phones, ordering office supplies, etc.; use independent judgment and problem solving where answers and solutions can only be found after considerable thought and analysis; some travel may be required on a limited basis and the position may involve participation in occasional weekend events.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree and experience working with PK-12 schools or Higher Education.

Desired Qualifications:

Consideration may be given to candidates with a master’s degree in education or related field; experience teaching in PK-12 schools; experience making connections between PK-12 schools and institutions of higher education; Proficiency in Microsoft Office Software & Google Workspace applications; Proficiency in office machinery use: copier, scanner, fax machine, multi-line telephones; Proficiency in professional document writing and proofreading skills; Proficiency in database merging and disaggregation; Willingness to learn new programs/platforms as needed.
