Job Title: The Miami Student Leadership Student Staff - Student Assistant
Salary/Grade:

  $8.80/hr - $9.65/hr

Job Summary:

The Miami Student is a student-run newspaper that publishes every Tuesday during the academic year. To maintain our financial integrity and further develop our revenue streams, it is essential the publication manages its resources and provides local and national businesses and organizations with a place to advertise their goods and/or services. As the Business Manager, you will play a key role in overseeing the newspaper’s business operations and networking with potential clients.

Through this position, you will attain the skills and experience necessary to jumpstart a
successful career in management, sales and/or advertising. Additionally, you will support local
journalism efforts and assist businesses and organizations with their outreach efforts.

Work assignments are completed under close supervision.
Procedures are well established.
Employees typically follow well-defined policies and procedures.

Essential Duties:

The business manager will:
• manage the budget and work with the Committee on Student Media Organizations (COSMOs)
• manage the newspaper distribution process and oversee distribution staff
• pay weekly bills and invoice clients
• identify and reach out to local businesses who may be interested in purchasing print or online ad space
• maintain positive relations with clients and respond to their advertising needs
• schedule recruitment and social events
• help determine possible revenue streams

Minimum Qualifications:

• strong interpersonal communication skills
• attention to detail
• business-related majors preferred, but open to all majors
