Job Summary:


The Senior Associate Director for Student Success will create a seamless and streamlined experience that equips, supports, and empowers students for success. This position has the responsibility for creating and enhancing wrap around support structures that drive student success by leveraging, expanding, and coordinating the Miami community’s array of services. The Sr. Associate Director is responsible for leading the development and implementation of high-profile, best-practice pre-arrival and transition programs focused on first-generation, low-income, and traditionally underserved student populations with the goal of improving the overall Miami Experience, from the point of enrollment through graduation, for these cohorts. The position reports directly to the Sr. Director of Student Success.


Duties/Physical Demands:

Manage Student Success staff who task with intrusive student success initiatives (GradU8 Scholars and Bridges Scholars) that improve and support student persistence and satisfaction; provide leadership in the oversight of the individualized outreach to students; working closely with staff and faculty in the development, enhancement, and coordination, and deployment of outreaches to ensure maximum effectiveness. Assist in overseeing the continued enhancement and stewardship of the GradU8 Scholars program, a student success initiative developed for low-income students and recipients of Miami’s need-based aid. (20%)

Design custom intervention strategies and campaigns into actionable outreach efforts tailored to Miami’s student population in collaboration and consultation with various University partners, including but not limited to internal offices within EMSS most notably, Student Life and Academic Affairs to increase student persistence. Utilize data to manage continuing student enrollment, and work with Enrollment Research and Analytics, academic advising offices and other faculty and staff to maximize the use of data, developing new data as needed, to achieve student success goals; Develop and maintain reports to track, communicate and measure efforts of the Student Success Center in University-wide retention efforts. (45%)

Serve as the University’s lead administrator for SSC Campus advising tool by establishing and conducting training for all Miami University users of the product, including the six academic divisions and other academic support centers such as ISSS, ICA, and various Student Life offices; administer permissions, roles, categories and support for the SSC Campus platform; Serve as lead support and technical contact with EAB; Serve as the central purveyor and disseminator of SSC Campus best practices to the University community and ensure the tool is actively and effectively being utilized. (20%)

Coordinate the Illume User Group efforts to utilize Civitas’s Illume Impact platform to statistically analyze the impact of University-wide student success initiatives and recommend
changes to these initiatives which could affect University policy; Coordinate the Illume User Group efforts to utilize Civitas’s Illume Student platform to identify most at-risk student populations and coordinate outreach to those students. (10%)

Serves on various University committees; Other duties as assigned. (5%)


Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree and 5 experience in higher education, college student development or related field OR a Master’s Degree in higher education, college student development, or a related field with 3 years of progressively more responsible positions in higher education.


Desired Qualifications:

Strong knowledge of relational databases and particularly as related to the Banner SIS
Understanding of higher education retention theories
Experience with TABLEAU, Busines Intelligence (BI), SQL
Ability to administer the EAB Campus platform and Civitas’s Illume platforms


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Excellent organizational skills.
Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.

Strong data and technology orientation; ability to learn and understand complex technology/software programs, and train and mentor others to maximize usage.
Facility with interpreting quantitative and qualitative data and demonstrated ability to leverage data to achieve desired outcomes.
Coaching/Advising/Counseling experience in Higher Education.
