Job Summary:

The Assistant Dean of Students and Deputy Title IX Coordinator coordinates the community response to student-involved sexual misconduct (including sexual harassment), domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking. This response can include appropriate referrals, resource connection, reporting guidance, and supportive measures. The Assistant Dean of Students and Deputy Title IX Coordinator is responsible for conducting response efforts for both complainants and respondents. This position is responsible for tracking student incidents and case managing student reports in Maxient software. In adherence to Title IX policies and mandates, they are responsible for responding to reports of sexual assault (including sexual harassment), domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking in a timely manner. The Assistant Dean of Students assists in overseeing Title IX and other federal and state mandates to maintain compliance with these laws. The Assistant Dean of Students, in addition to Title IX student response, is responsible for overseeing assessment efforts for the Office of the Dean of Students (DOS) and supervising DOS practicum students and graduate assistants (programs and outreach).

 

Duties/Physical Demands:

• Serve as the primary response person for student reports of sexual misconduct (including sexual harassment), domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking in the Miami University community, and maintaining appropriate related records. Provide support and assistance in connecting students to supportive measures, as well as information about reporting options. Serve as the point of contact for students for information related to Miami’s Sexual Misconduct policies and procedures.
• Serve as a liaison to the University Title IX Coordinator.
• In collaboration with Student Wellness, provide leadership for and assist in ongoing strategic planning, and the associated creation and dissemination (at times through on-site training) of education, prevention, and response efforts for Miami faculty, staff, and students about issues related to sexual misconduct (including sexual harassment), domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking.
• As a representative of the division, productively partner with (i) external stakeholders; (ii) faculty, staff and students outside of the divisions; and (iii) intra-divisional colleagues to advance the strategic objectives of the university, the division, and the position’s particular areas of responsibility, including assisting with the University’s crisis and emergency response efforts.
• Strategically plan for the acquisition of and process relevant data in order to prepare reports and/ or make presentations or provide training related to the areas of responsibility.
• Remain current on compliance requirements and best practices related to Title IX, Clery, Campus Sexual Violence Elimination (Campus SaVE) Act, VAWA, and other statewide and national laws/initiatives related to all areas of responsibilities; provide ongoing (minimally annual) updates to University processes, procedures, and policies (e.g. Sexual Misconduct protocol); maintain external continuing education as required by Title IX field and best practices in the sexual violence and dating/domestic violence field.
• Manage caseload of medical withdrawals.
• Serve in an on-call duty rotation for crisis response.
• Serve as backup to the Assistant Dean of Students for the case management of CARE cases (behavioral concerns).
• Oversee the assessment efforts for the Office of the Dean of Students: serve on the Student Life Assessment Committee, coordinate the development of the DOS annual report, and in partnership with the Dean of Students develop and track departmental strategic goals.
• Review, understand and manage relevant budgets; strategically seek (through grants; gifts, etc), advocate for, and/or reallocate resources across areas of responsibility consistent with divisional priorities.
• Other Duties as assigned, and not limited to responding to emails, calls, and other unexpected and unassigned internal and external requests for information, explanation, etc. After hours and timely responses to critical incidents are an essential element of the job, as is thorough planning for coverage on the occasions of vacation/sick leave.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

• A Master’s degree in student affairs, higher education, counseling, social work, or another appropriate field of graduate study.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of full-time professional experience in higher education.
• Understanding of, and commitment to, cultural diversity and the ability to work with diverse individuals and groups.
• Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion, superior judgment, and neutrality.
• Demonstrated knowledge of relevant laws such as Title IX, Campus Sexual Violence Elimination (Campus SaVE) Act, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and Clery Act.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends as needed. Ability to work on call hours, requiring a 24-hour response time to reports.
• Strong project management skills and ability to prioritize and meet deadlines with attention to detail.
• Experience developing and delivering training outreach for a wide range of audiences, including students, staff, and faculty.

 

Desired Qualifications:

• Prior experience working in Title IX or student conduct is highly desired.
• Strong assessment skills; ability to analyze, summarize, and effectively present data/results.
• Exceptional interpersonal, presentation, verbal and written communication skills.
• Eagerness to work collaboratively and effectively with a wide array of stakeholders (e.g.; students, faculty, staff, and community/government agencies).
• Knowledge/understanding/effective application of student developmental theories.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple projects.
• Crisis management and emergency response skills; ability to manage high-pressure situations ethically, effectively, efficiently, and consistently.
• Computer literacy skills, the ability to maintain accurate files.
• Experience with fiscal management, including budget oversight, resource allocation and responsible stewardship.
• Proficiency or fluency in a language other than English.
