Senior Director of Marketing and Communications

Job Summary:

The Senior Director of Marketing and Communications works In collaboration with the Vice President and Chief Marketing and Communications Officer to lead the creative arm of University Communications and Marketing. The Senior Director provides strategic counsel, direction, and guidance to the Vice President and Chief Marketing and Communications Officer in developing and executing marketing and communications plans. The Senior Director works to champion, align, and integrate the brand throughout the University.


— In collaboration with others in the department and with campus leaders, including the Vice President and Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, maintain and further develop a successful integrated marketing strategy that will help to advance the University's national reputation and public identity.

— Manage and coordinate the creative development process, including working with outside vendors as needed and within budget, for departments across the University, including enrollment management, athletics and admissions, as well as academic divisions, regional campuses and other units. Within this process brainstorm and develop marketing materials to promote the University.

— Supervise a team of print and web designers, web developers, photographers, videographers and marketing specialists to foster a creative, collaborative, and energized work environment.

— Integrate, implement, and evaluate the effectiveness of strategic marketing and advertising plans. including video production and photography. Work closely with staff to oversee market research.

The successful candidate will have:

— A comprehensive skillset across a variety of marketing and creative disciplines

— Solid understanding or emerging media in marketing and strategic communication and ability to convey information and content in ways that engage and excite constituents. including prospective students and their families, alumni, and the wider public

— A strong eye for compelling design with a creative, energizing attitude and an inspiring, motivating personality

— Outstanding management and planning skills, Including the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and manage around deadlines

— Expertise or oversight experience managing digital (video and photographic) production

— A collaborative and collegial orientation, eager and able to engage a diverse client base, and able to build strong professional relationships

— Strong personal integrity and work ethic, as well as a sense of humor and perspective

— Excellent oral and written communications and presentation skills

— Ability to eloquently convey Miami's branding vision and priorities to administration, faculty, staff, students and outside constituencies


Minimum Qualifications:

— A bachelor's degree in marketing, public relations, communications, or related field

— Five years of experience overseeing a complex, multi-faceted marketing and digital, branding, creative or design organization within a company, university, or agency

— Demonstrated skill in managing and motivating creative professionals, effective team-building, and building a positive and enthusiastic work environment

— Experience developing branding campaigns

— Superior oral and written presentation skills

—Experience managing digital and web communications as well as media planning and advertising placement

— Knowledge of utilizing emerging and social media to engage constituents

— Ability to manage and track spending and budget efficiently

Desired Qualifications:

— Experience working in higher education marketing, communications, and/or enrollment management

— Superior understanding or marketing and advertising principles, including measurement and analytics, and a track record or fostering creativity across multiple mediums

— Knowledge and familiarity of higher education environments and admissions recruiting

— Knowledge of analytics and marketing measurement

— Experience In brand management and stewardship with knowledge of developing and maintaining Identity standards

— Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities

— Knowledge of the video production process
