Student Organizations Can Now Apply for Red Zone Programming Grants
The Red Zone, tucked upstairs in the east wing of the Armstrong Student Center, is a gathering place for students to relax, unwind, eat, and play.
The vibe is casual. Low-key. Some students might be playing a game of air hockey or pool while others are grabbing a quick bite of wings and fries. Some may be watching a basketball game on one of the many televisions, and some may be playing a board game, borrowed from the Red Zone staff.
With accent walls and floors constructed with reclaimed wood from the old Withrow gym and Miami colors embedded throughout the space, Red Zone is a school spirit haven.
Despite these features, some students don’t know that Red Zone exists. Being on the second floor, it doesn’t get as much visibility as some of the other dining locations in Armstrong. A new programming grant from the Armstrong Student Center aims to bring more awareness, student-led programming, and traffic to the space.
The grants offer up to $200 for programming supplies or other event-related expenses. Student organizations in good standing with the university can apply, and approved events must be free and open to the entire Miami community.
"We're hoping this grant will allow student organizations to see all the cool events they can have in this space, said Hannah Muldoon-Davis, associate director of the Armstrong Student Center. "It has so much potential and we want to capitalize on that to help student organizations have fun events while getting students into the space and excited about using it."
Grant applications must be submitted at least one month prior to the event. Five events will be approved per semester. Funding cannot be used for recurring meetings, and all events must adhere to Armstrong Student Center and university policies.
To apply for a grant, student organizations should submit an application detailing their budget and marketing plan. Once approved, they will work with the Armstrong Student Center team on the next steps for funding and event coordination.
