Adaptable Resolution

The Adaptable Resolution (“ADR”) process occurs when a student is alleged to have violated the Code of Student Conduct. This is a remedies-based, structured process between or among affected parties that balances support and accountability without formal disciplinary action against the respondent.

The Office of Community Standards may send the case to the Office of the Dean of Students if needed.

The Assistant Dean of Students oversees the ADR process. They assign cases to the resolution coordinator and track the progress of each case until it's resolved.

The nature of some conflicts, especially those involving violence, may render ADR inappropriate.

Examples include, but are not limited to:

Facilitated Dialogue

A guided conversation happens between two or more people. This usually includes the claimant, the responding party, and other community members.

Restorative Circle or Conference Process

A facilitated meeting lets people who have been harmed meet with those responsible for the harm. Together, they aim to create a plan or agreement to repair the damage as much as possible.

Restorative Shuttle Agreement

A separate conversation with the claimant, the responding party, and others. This discussion explores experiences and perspectives. The goal is to address everyone's needs.

This process doesn't need direct talks between the parties or others involved. Instead, they work independently with a coordinator to reach an agreement to repair the harm.

Community Supported Accountability Circle (CSAC)

A guided meeting between the responding party and university faculty or staff. This aims to ensure accountability, offer support, and create a learning plan.

The focus of a CSAC is to balance support and accountability for individuals who recognize their obligation to repair harm. It also aims to prevent future harm and encourages their willingness to engage in an individual educational process.
