Attend an Access Consultation with an access coordinator to discuss your accommodation request.
Once steps 1-3 are completed and you are formally affiliated for services, your Miller Center Access Coordinator will provide instructions for submitting your request to be reviewed by the Housing Accommodation Committee.
Students Currently Affiliated with Disability Services
Students currently affiliated with the Miller Center may initiate a housing/dining accommodation request by contacting their access coordinator. Additional documentation may be requested which speaks directly to the need for accommodation.
Appeal Process
To appeal a housing or dining accommodation decision, additional documentation is required. The following information should be submitted to SDS@MiamiOH.edu or your assigned coordinator.
This must include documentation from a treating medical provider detailing items such as:
A more detailed explanation of how the disability impacts the students ability to function specifically within the residential environment.
A detailed description of how the accommodation requested is an integral/medically necessary part of the student’s treatment plan, the rationale as to why it is warranted and how it will diminish the impact of the disability within a residence hall environment.
Any recommendations for accommodations should refer specifically to the functional limitation regarding the requested accommodation. The description must clearly delineate the impact of the disability on the student’s functioning in a residential community setting.
An explanation of how the recommended accommodations and/or support services will not provide equal access to the residential experience and mitigate barriers related to the student’s disability.
Impact on the student’s treatment if the accommodation is not provided.
Additional information submitted will be reviewed by the Miller Center Director. The requested information must be included for a complete appeal to be reviewed. Incomplete appeals will be denied. Notice of a decision will be provided within 7-10 business days of the Director's review. All appeal decisions are final. Students who wish to file a formal grievance may do so by contacting theOffice of Equal Employment and Opportunity.
