Job Summary:

Orientation and Transition Programs provides new Miami students with opportunities to learn about the campus community and to begin building connections to better prepare them for their experiences as undergraduate students. Fall Semester Orientation Student Assistants support Orientation and Transition Programs with diverse administrative duties. Student Assistants work in conjunction with the rest of the Orientation and Transition Programs team, including the Director, Assistant Directors, Program Associate, Graduate Interns, Orientation Student Coordinators, and the Student Orientation Undergraduate Leaders (SOULs).

Essential Duties:

Expectations:
Provide an exceptional level of customer service to office constituents (students, families, campus partners) by responding to emails, answering phone calls, and responding to in-person inquiries.
Prepare any printed materials for orientation check-in, including name tags.
Serve as a resource for student and family member questions.
Assist with orientation registration of new students and family members.
Assist with student and family orientation check in.
Complete various administrative duties in support of fall semester orientation.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualifications:
Student Assistants must have a minimum GPA of 2.3, be in good disciplinary standing with Miami University throughout their entire term of employment*, be enrolled as a student at Miami during the fall of 2024, and demonstrate leadership abilities. Qualified candidates have strong communication and organizational skills, the capacity to pay attention to detail, and an ability to work independently.
*A disciplinary record does not automatically exclude candidates from being eligible for this position. It may, however, warrant a discussion about the appropriateness of your candidacy and could be a factor in employment decisions. Orientation and Transition Programs will verify applicant’s academic and disciplinary standing.

Terms of Employment
Dates of Employment: May 13 – June 30, 2024, with the option to continue through July 31.
Hours: 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday with Saturday shifts on June 15 and 22.
Student Assistants have the choice to work part-time (20 hours per week) or full-time (40 hours per week) in June, with optional part time work (8-10 hours per week) in July.
Summer courses that overlap with the employment period should be approved by Orientation and Transition Programs in advance.
