Job Summary:

 

To administer a Division I program in the sport of ice hockey consistent with the policies of Miami University, the National Collegiate Athletic Association, and other appropriate governing bodies (i.e. National Collegiate Hockey Conference).

This position specifically supports the mission of the University and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics by assisting in institutional compliance with NCAA and Conference rules and regulations.

 

Duties/Physical Demands:

1. Plan, organize and direct all activities involved with a Division I program
2. Continue to recruit qualified student-athletes
3. Plan and administer practice to promote skill development of athletes
4. Supervise assistant coaches
5. Encourage and monitor the academic progress of student-athletes to maximize APR scores
6. Process initial and renewable financial aid recommendations as appropriate for the ice hockey program
7. Develop and manage sport budget
8. Review and update all NCAA squad lists, and eligibility rosters
9. Identify and provide an outreach opportunity for student-athletes in the ice hockey program
10. Represent the ice hockey program to outside constituencies (media)
11. Conduct the ice hockey program in accordance with all NCAA rules, including attendance at compliance meetings, appropriate record keeping for recruiting and playing/practice seasons, monitoring eligibility of student-athletes in the program, successfully completing the annual NCAA Certification test, and assisting in the education of student-athletes about NCAA rules
12. Participate in departmental activities, including service on committees and attendance at all scheduled meetings
13. Participate in activities as requested by the Development office
14. Perform other duties as assigned by the athletic administration

 

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s degree
2. An understanding of the complex rules and policies of the NCAA
3. Experience in teaching ice hockey skills, recruiting and coaching

 

Desired Qualifications:

1. Master’s Degree
2. Network of contacts in primary recruiting areas
