Job Summary: |
Police Officers at Miami University are responsible for providing a safe and secure environment for the university community.

Essential Duties: |
+ Perform law enforcement functions including mobile and foot patrol of University properties to provide a safe and secure environment for the university community. + Conduct preliminary investigations of reports and complaints involving criminal activity. + Enforce federal and state laws and university regulations. + Regulate traffic and parking; provide emergency medical assistance. + Effect forcible arrests and engage in foot pursuits when necessary; and perform other police officer duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications |
High school diploma or GED; valid driver's license; at least 21 years of age

Preferred Qualifications: |
OPOTA certification; Associate Degree in Criminal Justice related field of study.

Required knowledge, Skills and Abilities |
All applicants must have the relevant background and proven skills necessary to perform the required duties to include computer literacy and proficient oral and written communication skills, engaging in constructive and positive problem solving in a unique community with a diverse population, carrying equipment up several flights of stairs, and qualifying with a firearm. Applicants must also have a valid driver’s license, high school diploma or equivalent, and be 21 years old at time of application. Obtain/attend OPOTA certification within 6 months of employment if not already OPOTA certified.

Prior Law Enforcement Experience; Bachelor's Degree or higher in Criminal Justice related field of study.
