Job Summary:

 

Shop assistants are responsible for enforcing policy and maintaining a safe and orderly work environment and assisting graduate and undergraduate students with projects and techniques. Shop assistants are also given the opportunity to hone their skills by helping to build various projects used in the shop and around the department facilities. Shop assistants work an average of 10 -15 hrs. week. In addition assistants will be asked to arrive 1 week prior to the start of fall semester to attend a series of workshops where they will receive proper training in shop procedures, first aid and occupational safety and to become acquainted with the shop facilities. Essential Duties:

Applicants must possess a confident and receptive attitude, and be able to follow written procedures and oral instructions and work well in group settings. Applicants should also possess a high degree of self-motivation and a strong desire to learn and develop skills in the shop that may have a profound impact in their education and professional life after graduation.

Minimum Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications: Candidates for the position of shop attendant should possess good leadership skills and conscientious work habits. Applicants should possess a strong mechanical aptitude with an understanding of building material properties. Some knowledge or past experience with shop procedures and techniques is required.
