Families, we are glad you are here looking to support your student through the Office of Community Standards process.
Many family members call us to ask what their level of involvement is permitted to be, and the truth is, that decision is mostly between you and your student! As far as official processes are concerned, to have up to two (2) people join them as an advisor and/or support person in any meeting with OCS.
These individuals are able to offer advice and/or support to the student as they go through the conduct process, but are not permitted to speak or act on behalf of the student.
The purpose of these regulations is to ensure students are learning to advocate for themselves and address difficult situations. Our process is meant to be educational in nature, but education cannot occur if students are not acting on their own accord.
If you want to speak to the Office of Community Standards about your student’s disciplinary record in any capacity or attend any meetings with them, your student will need to complete an OCS FERPA Release form. The OCS FERPA Release Form allows students to waive their right to privacy in reference to their disciplinary record.

This form should only be filled out following an Administrative Hearing or Community Standards Board hearing. Once an appeal is submitted, all parties will be notified of the appeal.

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, as amended, commonly known as FERPA, provides students with a right of access to their education records, permits students to challenge the accuracy of the records and prohibits the non-consensual release of such information except in limited circumstances. For more information on the limited circumstances in which this information may be released without your consent, please review the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act Policy. In all other circumstances, the Office of Student Conduct (OCS) requires the submission of the OCS FERPA Release Form to release student disciplinary records to any party other than the student.
For release of disciplinary records, please return completed form to the Office of Community Standards in person at 009 Warfield Hall (451 E. Spring St., Oxford, OH), via fax at 513-529-1907, or a scanned copy via email to CommunityStandards@MiamiOH.edu.
