Assistant Preparator

Job Summary:

Assistant Preparator to assist in routine to moderately complex tasks related to the installation and deinstallation of museum exhibitions which requires specialized training and experience in museum preparator work. This position is intended largely to assist with gallery changeover between Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 semesters, specifically December 15, 2023 - February 15, 2024.

Duties/Physical Demands:

The Assistant Preparator will assist with installation and deinstallation of Art Museum exhibitions. Duties could include matting, framing, mount-making, painting and construction of gallery and display furniture as well as assisting in shipping and receiving, packing and crating art objects; The frequent operation of power tools; Potential for working evenings or weekends, if needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma

Desired Qualifications:

Consideration may be given to candidates with a Bachelor's Degree in Arts or Museum Studies related topic; Basic carpentry skills; Experience with varied museum or art gallery installations; Museum lighting; Art matting and framing; Familiarity with types of mount-making for objects and artworks; Knowledge of museum professional standards; methods for handling sensitive or fragile materials.
