Job Summary: |
The Assistant Director for Lab Safety engages in laboratory space inspections, creates inspection templates, inspection reports, and performs routine and non-routine administrative tasks to assist the operation goals for the Research Ethics & Integrity program (REI).

Duties/Physical Demands: |
The Assistant Director for Lab Safety, under the supervision of the Director of Research Ethics & Integrity, will work closely with Environmental Health and Safety to undertake an initial review of all laboratory space on campus for identification of legacy chemicals for disposal, for storage of chemicals and biologicals currently in use, and for implementation of long-term good practices. The role would then undertake semi-annual inspections of every teaching and research lab space, work closely with instructors and lab personnel to address areas of concern, and ensure requisite biological safety inspections are conducted for compliance with federal funders.

Minimum Qualifications: |
For appointment as an Assistant Director a bachelors degree or higher is required. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States on a fulltime and indefinite basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities |
The Assistant Director for Lab Safety requires a bachelor’s degree. Candidates must have the ability to perform lab inspections, to maintain accurate documentation, and be able to effectively communicate results of the inspection to faculty, staff, administrators and/or students. The Assistant Director for Lab Safety will obtain any necessary certifications and retain certificates through continuing education.
