Job Summary:

 

The Senior Director of Development, College of Education, Health, and Society will advance the mission of Miami University by planning, organizing, and implementing strategies to increase the level of personal involvement and financial commitment of alumni and friends. Particular emphasis will be given to strategies seeking philanthropic and volunteer support for the College of Education, Health, and Society.

The College of Education, Health, and Society (EHS) was founded in 1902 as the first professional school of Miami University and one of the first teacher education schools in Ohio. Today EHS has nearly 47,000 living alumni and is positioned to address many of the societal issues that need serious attention. Through the collaboration of six departments, EHS offers answers to questions of academic inequities and health and wellness disparities for children, families and the broader community. Our work in teacher preparation, kinesiology, nutrition, and health, sport leadership and management, family science and social work, educational psychology, and educational leadership provides the College with tremendous opportunities to apply ground-breaking research in these fields.

Duties/Physical Demands:

- In coordination with the College’s leadership team, develop and direct campaign initiatives within the College of Education, Health, and Society.
- Play an integral role in helping the College of Education, Health, and Society achieve its comprehensive campaign goal.
- Create and execute fundraising plans that utilize best practices in major giving including identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major prospects and donors (alumni, parents, and friends of Miami University) for gifts of $50 thousand and above.
- Establish close working relationships with the College’s Director of Communications and Director of Alumni Relations to maximize alumni engagement with the College’s philanthropic priorities and ensure coordination of the college’s communication and fundraising efforts.
- Prepare and present gift proposals to prospects with the input and assistance of faculty, administrators, and deans, as well as other constituent and central development officers. Proposals may involve establishing multi-year commitments, as well as helping to facilitate gifts of real estate, personal property, securities, and gifts in wills, trusts, annuities and insurance.
- On behalf of the Dean of the College, staff the college’s alumni advisory council, which has recently been restructured to advance the philanthropic engagement of alumni and support College’s campaign related fund-raising efforts.
- Encourage and coordinate the involvement of alumni and friends through campus visits and regional events.
- Serve as an exemplary University and College advocate in the community, with local leaders; alumni organizations; education, health, and corporate partners; and other leaders and key constituents.
- Be active and involved in the advancement profession and faithfully represent Miami University and the College of Education, Health, and Society.
- Perform other duties related to the mission of the Office of Development under the guidance of the Senior Associate Vice President for Development.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree; minimum of five years experience in fundraising, business development and/or relationship management roles; demonstrated level of leadership.

 

Desired Qualifications:

Advanced degree; fundraising experience in an educational environment.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Outstanding oral and written communications; excellent organization skills and attention to detail; and willingness to travel extensively both on a regional and national level.
