Job Title: Assistant/Associate Teaching Professor
Job Summary:

Assistant/Associate Teaching Professor to teach undergraduate courses. While the positions are not tenurable, they are renewable, and there are opportunities for promotions that include longer-term contracts. Responsibilities include teaching foundational courses in computer science, software engineering, and cybersecurity; advising undergraduate students; and providing professional service to the department, college, and institution.

The Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering offers undergraduate Bachelor of Science degrees in computer science and in software engineering. A Bachelor of Arts in computer science curriculum is near the end of the approval process. Being established is a Center for Cybersecurity Research and Education through which the department will offer undergraduate and graduate degrees in cybersecurity and maintain a strong research program. A Master of Science in Computer Science degree is currently the highest degree program offered by the department. The total number of undergraduate majors is approximately 900. Over 50 students are enrolled in the growing research focused master’s program. Average class size is typically near 30. The faculty is currently comprised of 34 full-time individuals. Miami University is ranked 22nd in the nation for its commitment to undergraduate teaching by US News & World Report. In 2021, CodeSignal assessed Miami University graduates as being number two nationally in fundamental computer science and programming ability. Miami’s current rank is 39th in the nation. Miami’s software engineering program is ranked tenth in the nation by Tech EDVOCATE.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required: Ph.D. in computer science, software engineering, computer engineering, cybersecurity or a closely related field by date of appointment for appointment as an Assistant Teaching Professor. To be appointed to Associate rank, candidates must have a Ph.D. in computer science, software engineering, computer engineering, cybersecurity or a closely related field by date of appointment and three or more years of full-time higher education teaching experience in computer science or software engineering.

Desired Qualifications:

Consideration may be given to candidates with extensive experience in computing or prior teaching experience at the college level who can document excellence in the classroom.
