Job Summary: |
Part-time student assistants from the departments of English and Media, Journalism, and Film are needed in the College of Arts and Science (CAS) to help the Director of Communications develop media content for the CAS website and electronic alumni newsletters for all CAS departments. This content may consist of news stories, videos and transcripts of personal interviews, event and research coverage and announcements, and more.
Tasks (may vary):
* Covering campus lectures and other events for a news story, to be posted on the university and/or CAS news websites * Transcribing audio and video interviews of students and alumni, from files provided by the Director * Working with the Director and a professional videographer to conduct interviews with CAS alumni, faculty, and students, as assigned by the Director * Writing and editing specialized news stories and event information * Conducting interviews with faculty, alumni, and students on research, teaching, study abroad, experiential learning, and other topics * Conducting online and/or library research on various topics, as needed * Participating in occasional meetings with the Director and assigned faculty, as needed * Other related tasks, as needed
All student assistants will report directly to the Director of Communications, who will coordinate assignments in conjunction with department and program faculty.

Essential Duties: |
* Interview specified student, faculty, and alumni for story and spotlight content * Transcribe audio and video interviews * Attend select CAS events for news coverage (as schedule allows) * Write engaging content for the CAS website, alumni newsletters, and other platforms * Meet with the Director of Communications irregularly during the semester, as needed

Minimum Qualifications: |
* Writing and editing, demonstrating a good command of English writing and grammar * Interpersonal communications, including email * Ability to follow-through on assigned projects and meet deadlines * Attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications: |
* Familiarity with conventions of professional writing and/or journalism * Some experience in photography and/or videography and editing * Familiarity with social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, et.al.)

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: |
Because this position requires some knowledge of Miami University and the College of Arts and Science as well as the ability to produce good writing, sophomores and juniors with declared majors in English and/or MJF are preferred.
