Job Summary:

 

Lead the administration and coordination of all conduct actions and procedures related to student misconduct, including the dissemination, interpretation, and enforcement of University policy. Oversee the student conduct system for Oxford, Hamilton, Middletown, VOA, and Luxembourg campuses, and provide a developmental and educational context for student behavior on and off campus. Report to the Associate Vice President & Dean of Students and supervise the Office of Community Standards staff, including Assistant Directors (2), Title IX Investigator (1), Administrative Associate (1), coordinator (1), graduate students and student assistants.

 

Duties/Physical Demands:

● Direct all student conduct related efforts to ensure student code of conduct accountability is delivered with a student-centered and educational foundation.
● Provide strategic leadership for, and supervise, mentor, direct, and evaluate the staff of Community Standards.
● Serve as a hearing officer in suspendable cases related to violations of Miami's Code of Student Conduct, including cases related to sexual and interpersonal violence.
● Develop, review, revise, and oversee the training processes for all those associated with adjudication of cases.
● As a representative of the division, productively respond to and partner with
o (i) external stakeholders (parents, attorneys, Oxford Police, etc.);
o (ii) faculty, staff, and students outside of the division; and
o (iii) intra-divisional colleagues to advance the strategic objectives of the university, the division, and the position's particular areas of responsibility
● Conduct an annual review and modification of the Code of Student Conduct.
● In partnership with the Office of the Dean of Students, facilitate the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) process designed to assist students in resolving conflict.
● Monitor and track legislation and legal precedent to ensure university compliance with relevant and current laws.
● Review, understand, and manage relevant budgets; strategically seek, advocate for, and/or reallocate resources across areas of responsibility consistent with divisional priorities.
● Advance all assessment and continued improvement efforts in alignment with divisional strategic priorities.
● Serve as the custodian of student conduct records and federal crime statistics for reporting purposes in accordance with Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) and Clery Act; maintain monthly/annual statistics on all cases, including sexual assault cases; participate in an annual audit.
● Serve on the University's Institutional Response Team and other committees as assigned.
● Other duties as assigned, and not limited to responding to emails, calls, and other unexpected and unassigned internal and external requests for information, explanation, etc.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

● Master's degree in Higher Education/Student Development, Criminal Justice, Law, or related field
● A minimum of three (3) years’ experience working with college students
● Experience in student conduct

 

Desired Qualifications:

● Prior leadership and supervisory experience
● Experience managing multiple priorities
● Experience with organization budgeting
● 3-5 years’ experience working with student conduct; seven or more years of progressive student affairs experience
● Prior experience working with a student conduct database, preferably Maxient
● Doctoral or Professional Degree conferred

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

● Working knowledge of Title IX, FERPA, and student conduct and due process best practices
● Strong organizational, communication, and conflict resolution skills
● Demonstrated record of critical thinking, leadership, and sound judgement
● Ability to work collaboratively and foster cooperation with a broad variety of campus and community constituencies
