Total salary of $3500; $1155 to be paid in May and $2345 to be paid in June.

Job Summary:

2021 Orientation Student Coordinator Position Description
The Office of Orientation and Transition Programs provides new Miami students with
opportunities to learn about the campus community and to begin building social connections to
better prepare them for their experiences as undergraduate students. Orientation and Transition
Programs staff hopes to help new Miami students feel more confident, comfortable, connected,
and curious about their Miami experience. The Orientation Student Coordinators, also known as
SAMs (SOUL Advisors and Mentors), work directly with the Assistant Director of Orientation and
Transition Programs to train, and mentor the SOUL team, along with planning and implementing
summer orientation programs. Direct supervision is provided by the Director of OTP.
Terms of Employment
The mandatory commitments within the employment term for the Student Coordinator position
include:
 May SOUL Training and Summer Orientation: May 16 – July 2
Responsibilities
 Assist with staffing the office and completing office tasks including room scheduling,
filing, answering phones, responding to email, etc.
 Actively keep office documents and resources organized
 Participate in staff meetings and evaluations
 Co-lead May Training for SOULs
 Advise SOULs about appropriate work etiquette and role-model in regards to all job
responsibilities
 Assist with the implementation of all aspects of the twelve real-time orientation sessions,
orientation Canvas course, and academic advising and registration
 Assist in developing programs and activities for students and family members
 Assist with mentoring the SOUL team
 Co-lead staff meetings
 Assist with other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

The Student Coordinator must have served as a Student Orientation Undergraduate Leader (SOUL), have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7, and demonstrate exemplary leadership ability. The Student Coordinator must intend to be enrolled for undergraduate courses at Miami University for the fall 2020 semester and continue as a student through the fall 2020 semester. The Student Coordinator must be in good standing with the Office of Ethics and Student Conflict Resolution and must maintain good judicial standing throughout his or her employment with the Office of Orientation and Transition Programs. The Student Coordinator is also required to abide by the Office of Orientation and Transition Program’s Student Leader Alcohol Policy (see next page for details) throughout the duration of employment. Qualified candidates possess strong communication and organizational skills, the willingness to confront conflict, and a commitment to inclusivity.
