Job Title: Postdoctoral Fellow - CPB - Jones
Job Summary:

The Jones research group at Miami University - Ohio is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to conduct industrial biotechnology research in the areas of metabolic engineering and synthetic biology. The position is supported by an externally funded project to enhance the production of psilocybin and other bioactive small molecules from a variety of microbial hosts with the goal of creating a competitive commercial production process with strong intellectual property protection. A wide range of technologies will be used to develop enhanced strains and processes including, but not limited to, transcriptional and translational pathway optimization, media optimization, fed-batch bioreactor optimization, as well as conventional metabolic engineering assisted by the development of novel synthetic biology tools. Top candidates will be independent thinkers capable of taking projects from idea to reality, while working as a team player and serving as a mentor to graduate and undergraduate students.

The position is funded through a sponsored research agreement between Miami University and PsyBio Therapeutics, Inc. ( and will be a 1-year term with the mutual option for renewal contingent on performance and funding availability.

Duties/Physical Demands:

Works independently or as part of a team to design, implement, and disseminate research aligned with the program’s research agenda. Participates in the development and submission of proposals for grants, contracts, or cooperative agreements. Expected to serve as first author on reports and publications.

Minimum Qualifications:

PhD (by date of appointment) in biology, biochemistry, biophysics, bioengineering, chemical engineering, or related areas; experience in microbial fermentation and familiarity with a range of molecular cloning techniques. Applicant must have strong organizational capability, experience with data analysis and presentation, and strong communication skills.

This position is not eligible for H-1B sponsorship.

Desired Qualifications:

Experience with lab-scale bioreactors, metabolite analysis by HPLC and LCMS, chromosomal integration in bacteria, comparative genomics, and yeast genetics.
