The Web Development Specialist participates in the production of Web and online projects, with main responsibilities involving development, maintenance, and troubleshooting the functionality and templates of web pages for constituents across campuses while adhering to standards and promoting institutional brand. In addition to a strong attention to detail, the candidate must be adept at juggling multiple assignments and producing quality work under tight deadlines.

Essential Duties

The primary responsibility is to build and maintain branded templates, functionality, and pages within Miami's web presence. Additional duties include: ensuring templates and functionality meet minimum accessibility guidelines; testing and ensuring cross-browser and cross-platform quality; collaborating with colleagues to contribute to a positive and inclusive work environment; researching and testing new software or tools that will improve the experience of Miami's site visitors; other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, interactive media, or related field and have previous internship or professional experience of at least 1 year; OR
- Associate's degree in computer science, interactive media, or related field and have previous internship or professional experience of at least 3 years; OR
- Previous internship or professional experience of at least 5 years
- Ability to communicate clearly and collaborate effectively with a broad range of campus constituencies
- Ability to work independently and take initiative in researching and creating new functionality, while also maintaining a collaborative relationship with University Communications and Marketing staff

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of object-oriented programming practices (e.g. Java, Velocity, or related languages)
  • Working knowledge of HTML 5, SCSS, and related basic web technologies
  • Working knowledge of development languages (particularly JavaScript, PHP, and SQL)
  • Experience using JavaScript libraries and frameworks such as jQuery, Vue, and Bootstrap

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Organization skills that include strong attention to detail
  • Experience using version control tools and best practices and package management (e.g. GitHub/GitLab, SourceTree, Yarn, Homebrew)
  • Knowledge of PHP template engines such as Twig
  • Knowledge of 508 Accessibility Standards and practical compliance
  • Demonstrated knowledge of WCAG 2.0 AA guidelines and WAI-ARIA authoring
  • Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality web sites that communicate to key audiences/constituents
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience creating templates for content management systems (preferably Cascade Server, WordPress)
  • Experience with large scale website redesign
  • Knowledge of both Windows and Macintosh environments
  • Demonstrated experience with Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, and/or other data analysis tools
