Job Title: Associate Director of Student Diversity & Inclusion

Job Summary:

The Associate Director works with colleagues and stakeholders in creating an inclusive environment for all students. The Associate Director is responsible for supporting and enhancing the Miami community through advocacy and education and through the development and implementation of programs, activities, and procedures designed to enhance the academic success, retention, and personal development of diverse student populations. The Center embodies a commitment to diversity/multiculturalism as expressed through ability, age, ethnicity, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic differences.

 

Duties/Physical Demands:

• Assist in the planning and management of Miami University cultural heritage months and graduation ceremonies.
• Coordinate and implement educational cultural events, dialogues and programs
• Implement divisional diversity initiatives for academic units and Division of Students Life
• Develop opportunities for and support students' involvement in leadership programs and conferences.
• Assist the Director in the supervision, training and development of professional staff members to be successful in their role.
• Collaborate with university divisions across campus and participate in various committees
• Assess programs and outcomes and lead or assist in coordinating assessment for the office including planning and reporting.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

• Master of Education in Student Affairs Administration, Higher Education, College Personnel, Counseling, or related field.
• Three to five years of full-time working experience in Multicultural/Diversity Affairs, Leadership/Student Development, Student Activities or related area in a university setting.
• Experience working with multicultural/diverse student populations.
• Proven effectiveness in human relations including the ability to relate well with all segments of campus.
• Strong assessment background required.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Required knowledge of Student Development Theory, Racial and Ethnic Identity Development, Feminist, Queer and Tranationalism Theory as well.
• Act as student advocate.
• Experience planning large scale events.
• Demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills.
• Group facilitation skills required.
• Design programs to serve Multicultural and LGBTQ+ populations including outreach to International Students.
• Demonstrate strong computer competence, including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, and social media and marketing mediums.
• Able to create and direct new initiatives as well as oversee program departmental assessment and reporting of key performance indicators.
• Ability to work in a team and collaborative environment.
• Ability to work evenings and weekends.
