Job Summary:

A member of Miami University’s Office of University Communications & Marketing, the Social Media Content Specialist is a highly creative and self-starting storyteller, responsible for producing dynamic, engaging digital content, including, but not limited to, copy, videos, photos, and graphics designed specifically for the University’s primary social media channels. This position may also assist with digital marketing efforts through display, social, and email marketing.


Duties/Physical Demands:

- Conceptualize, shoot, and edit engaging video content for all appropriate social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, YouTube, etc.

- Publish content in different formats (GIFs, IGTV, sizzles, teasers etc.) that capture the attention of the intended audience and engage them in measurable ways.

- Collaborate with University Communications & Marketing storytellers to produce content that expands awareness of Miami’s brand and reputation.

- Maintain knowledge of timely, relevant societal topics, and identify opportunities to tie them to social-first video content.

- Design engaging, visually appealing graphics for the University’s primary social media accounts that follow Miami University’s brand guidelines.

- Collect and edit photography for the University’s primary social media accounts, as needed.

- Actively seek to understand and capitalize on current platform and user engagement trends that will build on Miami’s existing social media content in new and exciting ways.

- Create, edit, and improve the content that audiences are looking for and optimize the path to conversion.

- Measure and optimize social traffic on a regular basis to drive web traffic, engagement, and leads.

- Manage and optimize local marketing efforts through Google and Bing business listings.
Integrate content programs with brand campaigns to drive the demand for the university.

- Obtain end-user feedback and generate ideas to increase customer engagement.

- Measure performance of social media efforts using a variety of web analytics tools.

- Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree and have previous internship or professional experience of at least 1 year.

- Ability to conceptualize, produce, shoot and edit engaging, timely and relevant social-first video content, from pre-production through final delivery.

- Proficiency of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, and Snapchat, with a focus on how video can and should be utilized on each platform.

- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and juggle multiple projects with a quick turnaround time.

- Ability to work nights and weekends on occasion as necessary.


Desired Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree in video production, marketing or a related degree and 2 years of experience producing video and managing social media accounts.

- Familiarity with captioning tools and accessibility.

- Understanding of emerging platforms and how to develop content to match recruitment audience.

- Proficiency with cameras and video production equipment and working knowledge of Adobe software (Premier Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, etc.).

- Knowledge of social metrics and how they impact user behavior and business decisions.

- Experience shooting, directing, and/or editing video in a professional environment; experience producing video for social media preferred.

- Excellent ability to explain and support your thinking.

- Able to take design direction and positively respond to feedback.

- Ability to juggle multiple assignments and producing quality work under tight deadlines.

- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.

- Strong asset management and organization skills for file management.
