Job Title:

Dean & Professor

Job Summary:

Miami University, the second oldest public institution in Ohio and one of the eight Public Ivies, invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the School of Education, Health and Society. The University seeks an exceptional leader with a strong record of academic accomplishment, collaboration, forward-looking vision, and the skills, passion, and commitment to advance diversity, equity, and justice and foster a welcoming environment for the College.

Miami University’s main campus is located in Oxford, Ohio, an attractive small city situated just an hour outside of Cincinnati and Dayton. Miami’s regional campuses are in Hamilton and Middletown, respectively located 13 and 22 miles from Oxford. The beautiful grounds and the gracious Georgian-style buildings of the 2,000-acre Oxford campus inspired poet Robert Frost to declare the Miami University campus "the most beautiful college that ever there was." Miami was ranked in the top 10 among the nation's top universities for best undergraduate teaching by the U.S. News & World Report in the 2020 edition of America's Best Colleges. Miami has ranked in the top ten on this short, elite list of universities for the past ten years.

The mission of the EHS is to prepare transformative leaders. Through excellence in teaching, scholarship, and community partnerships, the College provides dynamic and innovative programs that encourage international perspectives. The College’s integrated human experience prepares graduates to generate knowledge, educate, serve, and promote well-being in diverse and global settings through ethical, democratic practices. EHS enrolls 3,073 undergraduates with an additional 633 graduate students, supports a faculty of about 200 and a staff of 56. The College comprises 6 academic departments: Educational Leadership, Educational Psychology, Family Science and Social Work, Kinesiology and Health, Sport Leadership and Management and Teacher Education. Through the collaboration of these departments, the College of Education, Health and Society offers answers to questions of academic inequities and health and wellness disparities for children, families, and the broader community and provides tremendous opportunities to apply ground-breaking research in all of these fields.

Duties:

The Dean is the chief administrative, academic, and budgetary officer for the College of Education, Health and Society and reports directly to the Provost and Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs. The Dean serves as a role model of integrity, and a champion of diversity and inclusion for the College’s faculty and is accessible to both undergraduate and graduate students. The new dean will have the opportunity to build upon the College's strong commitment to undergraduate teaching, its interdisciplinary, diverse programs, its strong advocacy for social justice, diversity, equity and inclusion, and strong engagement with community partners. The next dean will advance the College by forging innovative programmatic, educational, and research partnerships within Miami University and its community partners in ways that will further Miami's reputation and standing as a nationally recognized, student-centered public research university.

Minimum Qualifications:

The Dean will hold an earned doctorate in one of the College of Education, Health and Society general fields of study and have achieved a distinguished record of scholarly, professional achievement for appointment as a full professor in one of the programs within the College.
