International Student Advisor

Job Summary:

Provide support for international students by offering visa and immigration advising, assisting with orientation and other programs, and collaborating with other units on campus to offer support and advocacy related to the successful transition of international students to the Miami University community.

  • Advise international student population, providing counsel on visa and immigration issues, maintenance of legal status, academics, cultural, or personal concerns; assist with Student and Exchange Visitor Information System reporting, processing visa documents and other related paperwork; serve as Designated School Official (DSO); travel to regional campuses regularly to provide visa and immigration support to international students enrolled on those campuses.
  • Assist with international student orientation, programs, workshops, and student groups as needed; assist with academic success of students including, but not limited to, counseling students who are experiencing academic difficulty, creating appropriate systems to organize academic information, developing reports, and maintaining relationships with campus partners.
Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree OR Bachelor’s degree and 2 years relevant work experience; Federal regulations require that this position be held by a US citizen or US permanent resident.

Desired Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, International Education, or related field; 2 years of relevant work experience (may be gained concurrently with education); Familiarity with Sunapsis.
