Job Summary:

A member of University Communications and Marketing’s (UCM) Digital Marketing team, the Assistant Director, Social Media is responsible for the implementation of Miami University’s social media strategy and the day-to-day management of Miami’s primary social media accounts. The Assistant Director will report to the Director of Digital Marketing. The Assistant Director of Social Media plans, writes, and produces creative and engaging social media content that supports student recruitment efforts, retention efforts, community building, and elevates Miami University’s reputation and brand. The successful candidate is self-motivated, detail-oriented, resourceful, organized, adaptable, efficient, collaborative, and highly-creative. The position requires expert knowledge of social media platforms, excellent creative writing skills, and proficient data analytics experience in order to drive account growth, engagement, and impact.

 

Duties/Physical Demands:

— Lead the day-to-day management of Miami’s primary social media accounts, as well as, the implementation of Miami’s social media strategy.

— Strategically plan and create impactful and engaging content for all social media platforms, including writing social media posts and planning compelling visuals.

— Develop social media content calendars each month that are consistent with the university’s brand identity, ensuring an appropriate content balance is achieved.

— Serve as the community manager on the University’s primary social media accounts, engaging users, and responding to their questions in a timely manner.

— Collaborate and provide strategic counsel to social media managers across the University

— Contribute to social media policy development, implementation, and enforcement.

— Use analytical tools and insights to monitor and evaluate the university’s social media accounts’ performance, and make adjustments for optimal results.

— Collaborate with designers and copywriters on creating informative, attractive, and compelling visual content including images, graphics, GIFs, and videos.

— Engage and manage relationships with social media influencers.

— Assist in the creation of monthly social media reports.

— Stay current on best practices and emerging trends.

— Set and adhere to content deadlines.

— Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

— Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of professional experience managing, and developing content for, social media accounts for a business or organization.

— Advanced knowledge of social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, Twitter, and TikTok.

— Experience using social media management systems, such as, Sprout Social and/or Hootsuite.

— Excellent communication and creative writing skills.

— Ability to multitask, manage timelines, and meet deadlines.

— Ability to work independently and within a team to develop content ideas and follow them through to completion.

 

Desired Qualifications:

— Four or more years of professional experience managing, and developing content for, social media accounts for a business or organization.

— Previous experience in higher education marketing and/or student recruitment cycles.

— Proficiency in using photo and video equipment, as well as, design and video editing software.
