Associate Director of Online Operations

Job Summary:

Provide strategic operational leadership and management that helps foster the Miami experience through online and innovative learning. Reporting to the Director of Digital Learning, this role works both within the unit and across the university to oversee the daily and long-term operations of Miami Online; helps support Miami’s online strategy by coordinating with a wide variety of partners to support effective online and innovative learning and by collaborating with other units’ leaders around the areas of learning technology, enrollment management, and student support services. 

Duties:

Operational Leadership:

  • Coordinates with unit leadership on direction and integrative coordination in the planning, development, and implementation of a comprehensive online and innovative learning program.
  • Conducts regular feedback sessions with academic and administrative partners in order to uncover opportunities and efficiencies.
  • Supports the piloting and evaluation of new initiatives that further enhance Miami’s program portfolio.
  • Oversees all facets of compliance with university, state, and federal laws, policies, and regulations, including oversight of accreditation reviews, state authorization (SARA), etc.

Managing Operations

  • Provides operational project management to the unit by developing operational policies and procedures, implementing effective project management, and promoting clarity and transparency in online and innovative learning initiatives; and affects changes required for improvement trains and develops others as needed.
  • Develops and manages annual budgets for the organization and performs periodic cost and productivity analyses.
  • Coordinates learning technology operations
  • Coordinates with learning design team to ensure effective operations and governance of learning technology.
  • Works with vendors and other external partners to manage relationships and oversee contracts.

Collaborating within the unit and across the university

  • Works collaboratively with other directors within the unit in the areas of online enrollment management, student success, and professional and continuing education and contributes to their teams.
  • Coordinates with a wide variety of inter-institutional offices (academic departments, legal counsel, finance and business services, registrar, etc.) to ensure effective business processes and operational effectiveness; provides monthly reports to unit leadership.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree
  • Five years of experience leading processes, policy/guidelines, improvements, working with multiple priorities and multiple projects in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact with others to accomplish goals.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve complex issues and/or provide alternative solutions when necessary.
  • Demonstrated staff, organization, and project management skills.
  • Organizational skills and ability to pay attention to details.

This position is available to persons who are currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time and indefinite basis. (Persons authorized to work on such a basis include US citizens, lawful permanent residents (“green card” holders), asylees, refugees, and temporary residents under IRCA.)

Desired Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree, preferably in business related areas or other associated field.
  • 5 or more years of experience managing comprehensive operations, preferably within an online learning unit or associated area.
  • 7 or more years of leadership experience.
  • Experience managing budgets and making financial projections.
  • Knowledge of and experience in education (preferably higher education).
  • Successful management of 10 or more employees.
  • Ability to work with multiple partners in building consensus and relationships while managing the prioritization of competing requests in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong negotiation, interpersonal, and team-building skills.
  • Demonstrates a high degree of independence and initiative.
