Job Summary:

This position is directly responsible for operating, maintaining, and planning the
medium voltage (12.47kv and 4.16kv) distribution systems on the Oxford campus. The
position will monitor budgets and operations to provide the university community with
safe, reliable, and cost-effective utility services.

Duties/Physical Demands:

Responsible for operating and maintaining the medium voltage (12.47kV and 4.16kV)
electrical distribution system. This position will also provide direct supervision of
university high voltage service technician/(s).
● Oversees unit operations; sets priorities; reviews completed jobs; manages the
budget.
● Responsible for the safe and reliable operation of the electrical distribution
system.
● Purchase and maintain adequate inventory to ensure continuous operation.
● Develop and document preventive and corrective maintenance activities for the
12.47kV distribution system and the 69kV substation.
● Provide technical support for emergencies, including loss of power, on a 24-hour,
7-day-a-week basis.
● Create switching orders for maintenance or outage mitigation and restoration.
● Review the design of projects related to the electrical system for new
construction and upgrade or renovation projects.
● Create and maintain written standards for procurement and installation of
equipment per applicable standards and preferences of Miami University.
● Contribute to departmental operational and financial efficiency by creating and
executing electrical energy procurement and generator dispatch strategies.
● Directly supervises classified employees

Minimum Qualifications:

This position requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in medium voltage system
operations, maintenance, and supervision.

Desired Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

● Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively, written and orally, at all levels
within the organization and with third-party vendors.
● Be prepared to respond quickly and effectively during time-sensitive situations.
● Demonstrate leadership through budgeting and administration abilities.
● Demonstrate the ability to read and understand blueprints and electrical
diagrams for planning and troubleshooting.
● Physical effort usually requires considerable walking and standing with some lifting of
materials weighing 25 to 50 pounds. Periodically assignments are given which entail
dealing with modestly unpleasant physical situations.
