The University Data Modeler position is a highly technical position with responsibility to lead the development, validation, publishing, and maintenance of logical and physical data models. You’ll be an integral part of providing data-driven insights that inform significant University wide decisions.
The University Data Modeler will be expected to leverage their knowledge of data modeling best practices, cross industry data expertise and data modeling tool expertise. As a member of our team, reporting to the Director of the Business Intelligence Team, you will have great opportunities to grow technically and professionally in multiple data disciplines.

Duties/Physical Demands: |
• Partner with clients to analyze and translate business needs into long-term solution data models. • Evaluate existing data systems, translations and structures for optimization. • Work with data modeling tools to design data structures that meet organizational needs using conceptual, logical, and physical data models. • Partner with solution teams to create conceptual data models and data flows. • Collaboratively update and optimize local and metadata models to align with university needs. • Participate in creation, review and refinement of data definitions, assist as needed with maintaining holistic entries in a data dictionary. • Provide focus on simplifying the data design landscape by looking for opportunities in data conformance, reusability and standardization.

Minimum Qualifications: |
Bachelor's degree earned by date of hire and 2+ years of relevant work experience OR Associate's degree earned by date of hire and 4+ years of relevant work experience OR 6+ years of relevant experience
This position is available to persons who are currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time and indefinite basis. (Persons authorized to work on such a basis include US citizens, lawful permanent residents (“green card” holders), asylees, refugees, and temporary residents under IRCA.

Desired Qualifications: |
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Analytics, or a related field earned by date of hire. • 2 years of data modeling experience • 1 year of Erwin Data Modeler experience or similar • 1 year Cloud ERP experience (Workday or Oracle preferred)
We are looking for you to have knowledge and experience in:
• Partnering with clients and stakeholders to analyze and translate business needs into optimized data artifacts (flows, models, translations and data sources). • Enterprise business intelligence and data analytics technologies, such as Workday Reporting, Workday Prism Analytics, Oracle OAS, MS Power BI, Tableau, and Oracle Data Integrator (ODI). • Collaborating with solution teams to design data models, data flows, and metadata management • Object oriented design and object relational mapping • Unstructured data analysis, such as with data lakes, NoSQL databases, and Apache Hadoop. • Relational database architectures at enterprise scale. Environments such as SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, or Redshift. • Analytical tools available in cloud infrastructure such as AWS, Azure, and GCP. • Understanding the importance of following FERPA, HIPAA, diversity principles, data integrity, and other compliance program policies and how to apply them to data security practices. • Understanding of Agile development (including Scrum or Kanban) • Industry standard data models such as Kimball’s dimensional model
