Assistant Professor of Art Education (tenure-track)

Job Summary:

Assistant Professor of Art Education (tenure-track) to commence August 2023. This position involves instructing all levels of undergraduate art education and cross-divisional collaboration between the Department of Art (housed in the College of Creative Arts) and the College of Education, Health, and Society. The Department of Art is committed to rigorous scholarship and the University’s teacher-scholar model. The successful candidate will possess a robust understanding of contemporary practices and theory in art education, demonstrated by their existing scholarship or research potential. The Department welcomes candidates considering ways that creative or community-based research practices can support, propel, or supplement academic publications and teaching. The candidate will teach, conduct research, advise undergraduate level students, and participate in service requirements including committee work.

The Department of Art is an academic unit within the College of Creative Arts and consists of 25+ faculty members (tenured/tenure-track and full-time) and 400+ majors. The Art Education program curriculum specifically prepares students in the knowledge, skills, and professional dispositions for teaching excellence. There is the option to obtain an art education degree without licensure for those who wish to pursue community art, museum education, or continue studies in art therapy. Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Art Education or closely related field by date of appointment; a minimum of 3 years of teaching in a K-12 or equivalent environment; demonstrated ability to teach concepts of art education in formal and/or informal learning environments.

Desired Qualifications:

Consideration may be given to candidates with previous university-level teaching experience; an active record of research; strong knowledge of the field of Art Education including areas of social justice, technology, museum education, arts and health, and/or community art; are dedicated to the work of anti-racism; and who are developing inclusive and innovative practices and/or curricula that contribute to the diversity, equity, and inclusion goals of the Department of Art, College of Creative Arts, and the University.
