Job Summary:

Miami University is looking for a very responsible student who can work independently or lead members of a crew to maintain the Miami University Natural Areas Trail System. Most of the work is performed without direct supervision and some can be worked around your schedule. Will plan and coordinate group projects that will be completed in a team setting with a coordinated schedule.

The Miami University Natural Areas System is composed of 1000+ acres and 17 miles of trails. Crew members participate in developing and maintaining this system.

Work Hours: Somewhat flexible around your schedule, but must be coordinated to complete group projects.
Fall, Winter and Spring: 8 – 16 hours a week.
Summer work (Required): 15 to 25 hours a week depending on your schedule.

Essential Duties:

*Project planning and management, and supervisory responsibilities, including scheduling, training, and overseeing work assignments.
*Training less experienced crew members in use of tools and maintenance practices.
*Chainsaw removal of fallen trees and limbs.
*Maintain trails by removing invasive species, repairing drain areas, erecting signs, weed-eating, building/repairing trail bridges and removing litter.
*Power mowing - trail entrances and trail heads
*Scheduled walks to inspect the trails, inventory maintenance needs, and to help plan the maintenance and reconstruction work.
*Preparing detailed lists of tools, materials and supplies for projects, and ordering and assembling those supplies.
*Repair of signs and fences.

Work assignments are complex and require extensive knowledge and/or previous experience.
Work is done independently.
Involves project planning and management, and supervisory responsibilities, including scheduling, training, and overseeing work assignments.
Will require significant physical exertion, and may involve adverse working conditions.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:
Provide your own transportation to worksites.
Must be 18 yrs. or older.
Capable of lifting & carrying materials up to 50 lbs., and hiking several miles at a time over uneven ground.
Capable of pull-starting and operating power equipment, including chainsaws, weed-eaters and mowers, and experience in operating such equipment.
