Systems Administrator II
Job Summary:

Systems Administrator II will have the primary responsibility for administration and maintenance of all University Libraries services running on Library servers. Assesses, anticipates, and recommends configuration of services running on Library servers. Miami University recognizes that technology enables us to find new ways of providing first-class service and workplace flexibility. This position is approved for remote work on a full-time or hybrid basis. Remote work is a mutually beneficial working arrangement that can be modified or revoked by Miami University at any time for any reason.

Duties/Physical Demands:

The Systems Administrator II is responsible for actively supporting Library online presence and will have the following responsibilities. The following duties all require a high degree of independence and ability to make mission critical decisions:
• Having primary responsibility for Library server administration (mainly Linux systems).
• Providing primary support for all services hosted on Library servers: (e.g., Dspace, Redmine, Jekyll, Sierra, EZProxy, Wordpress, Archivesspace, Omeka).
• Actively pursuing trends in the industry and professional development trends.
• Providing primary support for access to Library off campus resources (journals, databases etc).
• Providing assistance to Librarians regarding development of Library specific applications and backend support for Libraries Web services including scripting, network protocols and other essential tasks.
• Sharing responsibility with members of the Library IT team for responding to Library support tickets.
• Collaborate with central IT in the performance of duties.
• May occasionally teach one credit bearing course on an as needed basis.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required; minimum of two years of experience working with LAMP system; minimum of six months experience with Git; minimum of six months experience working with databases such as SQL; experience with the listed systems and databases acquired during classwork pursuant to the degree may be counted toward requirement.

Position not eligible for H-1B sponsorship.

Desired Qualifications:

Consideration may be given to candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science; demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing; demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others and serve a diverse population; possess effective organizational skills; experience with Puppet; experience with AWS; experience with VMware vSphere; experience with bash scripting; Linux Foundation Certified System Administrator (LFCS) training and/or certification, or equivalent.
