Job Title: Assistant Director, Events and Operations

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for the implementation of events through the scheduling, management, supervision, and development of a diverse student staff team. Armstrong Student Center is the site for approximately 3,000 meetings and events per year, around 75% of which are hosted by student organizations. Additional responsibilities include game and sports room management, supporting building operations, co-leading student staff training and development and managing departmental social media and digital advertising accounts.

Duties/Physical Demands:

The primary responsibilities of the Assistant Director are:

* Manage approximately 40 student staff who set up space according to customer needs and provide event and technical support during events and in game and sports venue. Supervision includes hiring, training, developing, scheduling. annual evaluations and convening regular staff meetings.
* Facilitate effective events by ensuring accurate setups and assisting in resolving event production and technology issues as they arise.
* Coordinate details with colleagues to arrange event setup and support. Work closely with partners and outside vendors to ensure smooth operation of technology equipment during events.
* Co-lead student staff training and development initiatives and demonstrate growth in student learning outcomes.
* Manage social media accounts to enhance department and divisional communication strategies
* Maintain meeting and event space inventory and technical equipment. Manage repair, replacement and preventive maintenance schedules.
* Coordinate high quality customer service to guests utilizing the facilities and act as an on-site liaison for event planners with the various departments on campus.
* Work with staff to identify event charges and use of technology in event spaces. Make necessary changes in the event scheduling system to ensure accurate billing.
* Respond to emergencies and provide support to student Building Managers and event production crew leaders, serving in an on-call role as part of a rotation.
* Serve on departmental and division of Student Life committees and work groups

Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree and 2 years of full-time professional experience in an education related field is required.

Related professional experience should provide evidence of the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
* Demonstrated experience supervising and/or mentoring students
* Experience facilitating programming or events
* Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive environment
* Must be willing and able to work some evenings and weekends as needed to support events and activities
* Must be willing to serve in an on-call professional staff member rotation

Desired Qualifications:

A Master's Degree in student development, higher/adult education, student personnel, business, theater or similar field and related experience is strongly preferred for this position.

Preferred Qualifications:
* Familiarity with event sound and light equipment
* Experience in a higher education student union environment
* Experience with Event Management System (EMS) for event scheduling
* Experience providing excellent customer service
* Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
