Building and Grounds Manager

Salary/Grade:

$18.40 hr/H2

Job Summary:

Performs a variety of administrative tasks related to overseeing the groundskeeping operations of the University campus. Direct supervision of classified staff. Hours for this position are Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.

 

 

 

Duties/Physical Demands:

Oversee activities of unit; establishes policies and procedures; sets goals and priorities; ensures the smooth flow of operations; enforces rules and regulations.
Supervises staff; recommends hiring; makes recommendations on discipline and termination; establishes schedule and assigns tasks; monitors and evaluates performance.
Monitors and reviews completed tasks; ensures that any necessary changes or corrections are made.
Develops forecasts on materials, supplies, and equipment needs; places orders for materials and supplies.
Performs a variety of administrative tasks including completing paperwork and maintaining records, and resolving complaints.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Requires an Associate's Degree in a related field and three years of experience in large scale Grounds Keeping services, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Desired Qualifications:

Associates Degree in a related Horticulture/Arboriculture field, pesticide license, landscape and/or irrigation certifications with four or more years of experience in managing the aspects of large scale grounds operations including workforce, equipment and technical aspects related to the upkeep of commercial landscapes.

Experience in operation and maintenance of large-scale landscape equipment, such as mowers, skid steer, backhoe, and other related equipment. Proficiency in plant identification.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of general business administration techniques
Knowledge of groundskeeping procedures and techniques
Supervisory skills
Knowledge of computer and office applications

Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

Physical effort usually requires considerable standing, walking, climbing, and operating equipment. Some lifting of materials weighing up to 50 pounds. Periodic assignment given which entail dealing with modestly unpleasant physical situations.
