Job Summary:

 

Position is responsible for managing large capital projects projects from schematic design
through close-out; developing and promoting positive customer relations for all projects
within PAE; reviews construction documents prepared by others, protects the University
from risk associated with construction and design activities; prepares reports to assist
PAE in planning objectives; assists with quality improvement activities. Position is
instrumental in determining selection of construction methodology for each project,
developing standard work and procedures to be used in managing and reporting project
progress and financials, and trains new project managers.

 

Duties/Physical Demands:

1. Leadership-Management-Relationship with Superiors – provides direction, focus,
guidance, support, prioritization of work and oversight of professional staff;
implements new and/or enforces existing programs, policies, processes and
procedures that result in high levels of performance and effectiveness; keep superior
informed; be responsive to directives from superiors; support the unit, departmental,
and institutional goals
2. Customer Satisfaction – recognizes the importance of efficiently and quickly
implementing customer projects; implements programs, policies, and work practices
ensuring a high degree of quality and customer satisfaction
3. Project Manager Function – responsible for assigned projects of various sizes and
types from schematic design through project close-out. This includes budget and
scheduling oversight; preparation of all necessary drawing and specification
documents either directly by in-house staff or by private consulting Architects and
Engineers; coordination of meetings with project committee members and
various other university department representatives; review of documents for
compliance with university standards and general coordination between disciplines;
bids analysis; representation for the university during construction
administration; and coordination of project close-out; all as outlined in PFD’s Project
Manager’s Manual
4. Administrative Function – Assists with the selection, development, implementation,
and ongoing utilization of web-based project management application and other
systems that may be developed and utilized by State agencies or the University.
Prepares project status reports and prepares or oversees the preparation of various
presentation materials, graphs, charts, schedules, and forms, necessary to provide
current and accurate data about project status to the administration and our customers.
Coordinates the collection of project data for charting and analyses with respect to
predetermined Key Indicators for divisional and departmental Strategic Planning
Objectives.
5. Continuous Improvement Function – embraces lean methodology; encourages a lean
the culture within the work unit; develops, tracks, and makes data-driven decisions using
key performance indicators unique to capital project execution; uses tools to monitor
and inform staff productivity and quality of work
6. Contractor Oversight - performs contract administration and hiring of outside
contractors; inspects work in progress and upon completion to ensure quality control
7. Long-Range Planning – coordinates with Director of Planning, Architecture, and
Engineering to develop planning on relevant projects
8. Record-Keeping Function – Develops policies and work practices that result in
accurate drawings and records of work performed

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in relevant field plus a minimum of 10 years, full-time experience in managing construction projects, with 5 years experience at Miami University.

 

Desired Qualifications:

Professional registration in a related field, management of construction in higher education in the State of Ohio for projects of $50,000,000+, and experience managing professional staff.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Technical knowledge and skills to produce and/or supervise the production of design and construction documents by in-house staff or contracted consultants; supervise the development of responsive construction estimates; oversee or assist with site construction administration.
Must be able to successfully handle multiple tasks at once, and be able to determine appropriate priorities; must be able to make appropriate decisions that are in the best interest of the organization and that are consistent with the objectives of upper management.
