Job Summary:

The Assistive Technology Student Master 1 will assist the Accessible Technology (AT) Team in supporting accessibility fundamentals across the University by providing information and services to enhance equal access for students with and without disabilities. The AT Team is responsible for accessibility policy, procurement and testing of documents, websites, and applications for accessibility
• Manage and supervise incoming requests for services provided by the AccessMU Center.
• Inventory, issue and collect specialized assistive technology; may include cleaning, moving, installing, and repairing equipment.
• Create alternative text files including, but not limited to, scanning documents using OCR software, editing and zoning documents, performing PDF file conversion, and extracting data from publisher PDF files or scanned images.
• Prepare training materials and conduct assistive technology training for faculty, staff and students registered with Student Disability Services.
• Create closed captioning files for videos.
• Create content and prepare tactile images using specialized equipment such as the Tactile Graphic Machine & the Tiger Braille Embosser.
• Provide assistive technology support to students, staff and faculty.
• Assist in gathering information and writing technical documents and reports.
• Work individually and/or as part of a team to document and test applications or documents for accessibility.
• Participate in multiple projects and timelines and ensure they are on track for successful completion.
• Perform administrative duties including reports for data tracking and office support.
• Provide phone and walk-in support to faculty, staff and students.
• Fulfilling other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe Products
• Editing skills in spelling, grammar and punctuation.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Excellent computer skills and proficiency in Google G Suite for Education, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat Professional, Web-Based Apps, Mobile Technologies, Online Research, and Technical Troubleshooting
• Understanding of HTML coding
• Experience conducting accessibility testing for applications/websites
• Experience writing technical documentation
• Experience creating flowcharts and diagrams that support process design
• Students with experience in math, science, technology, engineering, and a foreign language are highly sought
• Knowledge with the following technology is a plus: JAWS, NVDA, Text Help’s Read&Write & Equatio, Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), Adobe Acrobat Professional, Google’s G Suite for Education (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, Chat), YouTube, Equidox, Livescribe Pens, Duxbury Braille Translator, Kurzweil 3000 and Calibre.
