Equestrian

Horseback Riding at Miami University

Established in 1958, our stables are located on State Route 73 and serve as the gateway to the Miami University Oxford campus. The equestrian center stables 50 horses and is home to a nationally recognized equestrian team that serves all three disciplines: Dressage, Hunt Seat, and Western.

Benefits of Miami University’s Equestrian Program

As a part of this program, students and youth participants can develop their riding skills, gain valuable experience in a competitive setting, and work closely with a supportive community of fellow equestrians. Beyond the benefits of joining a top-tier university program, equestrian discipline itself promotes physical fitness, balance, and coordination while enhancing mental focus and discipline.

The Discipline of Riding

The sport teaches perseverance, responsibility, and teamwork, all of which translate to personal growth and achievement. Whether through hands-on experience in horse care or participating in competitions, Miami University’s equestrian program nurtures both the equestrian skills and life skills that will serve participants well in their academic and professional futures.

Programs and Offerings

In addition to the equestrian team, each semester there are over 400 students that ride in a 2 credit hour class offered through the Kinesiology and Health department. The equestrian center also hosts events, lessons, and summer camps.
