Job Title: Trades Specialist - HVAC/R
Salary/Grade:

$17.90hr/G1-M2

Job Summary:

 

Performs moderately complex repair or construction of university facilities or property which require specialized training in a skilled trade. This position consists of repair, maintenance and installation of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration controls and equipment. Technician will work primarily as a member of the HVAC staff. Hours for this position are Wednesday through Saturday, 5:00 am to 3:30 pm.

 

Duties/Physical Demands:

Reviews job orders and blueprints or drawings; inspects site and consults with client; determines best method to complete project.
Estimates amount of materials and equipment needed to complete project; arranges for materials to be at job site.
Performs complex repair or installation on University facilities and property using expertise acquired through specialized training in a skilled trade.
Troubleshoot, repair and install heating and air conditioning equipment.
Troubleshoot and repair refrigeration units.
Analyze, troubleshoot and repair building automated control systems.
Troubleshoot and repair air handing units and associated equipment.
Assists outside contractors as needed; assists crafts-persons from other trades as needed.
Maintains and cleans tools and equipment; maintains work area in a clean and orderly manner.
May prepare some paperwork; may maintain files.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Requires nine months training beyond high school in a skilled trade and two years of experience in that trade, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Driver's license required. University refrigerant handling certification required. 410A refrigerant handling certification required.

 

Desired Qualifications:

Five or more years of verifiable previous experience in HVAC-R preferred. NATE certification, Journeyman Card in a relevant trade, or successful completion of an apprenticeship program.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of the procedures and equipment of the heating and air conditioning trade
Mechanical aptitude
Ability to read and understand blueprints and/or mechanical diagrams
